An Old Dog, A Monkey And a Leopard

The Old Dog & The Leopard

Fable of the dog and leopard

A wealthy Old Gentleman decides to go on a hunting safari in Africa, taking his faithful, elderly dog named Killer, along for the company.

One day the old dog starts chasing rabbits and before long, discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.

The old dog thinks, "Oh, oh! I'm in deep trouble now!" Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap, the old dog exclaims loudly, "Boy, that was one delicious leopard! I wonder, if there are any more around here?"

Hearing this, the young leopard halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees. "Whew!", says the leopard, "That was close! That old dog nearly had me!"

Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard. So, off he goes, but the old dog sees him heading after the leopard with great speed, and figures that something must be up.

The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard.

The young leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says, "Here, monkey, hop on my back and see what' s going to happen to that conniving canine! "

Now, the old dog sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back and thinks, "What am I going to do now?", but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old dog says...

"Where's that crazy monkey? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another leopard!"

Moral of this story...Don't mess with the old dogs....age and skill will always overcome youth and treachery!

School Lunches Around The World

Did you know that on a typical day, 32 million children in the U.S. eat cafeteria food? Or that most of these students consume over half of their daily calories at school?

Recently there has been discussion about what constitutes a quality lunch, so we took a look at some typical school meals around the world, and how our own country stacks up.
Italy
Local fish on a bed of arugula, pasta with tomato sauce, caprese salad, baguette and some grapes
Finland
Pea soup, beet salad, carrot salad, bread and pannakkau       (dessert pancake) with fresh berries
France
Steak, carrots, green beans, cheese and fresh fruit
Brazil
Pork with mixed veggies, black beans and rice, salad, bread and baked plantains
South Korea
Fish soup, tofu over rice, kimchi and fresh veggies
Greece
Baked chicken over orzo, stuffed grape leaves, tomato and cucumber salad, fresh oranges, and greek yogurt with pomegranate seeds
Ukraine
Mashed potatoes with sausage, borscht, cabbage and syrniki (a dessert pancake)
Spain
Sautéed shrimp over brown rice and vegetables, gazpacho, fresh peppers, bread and an orange
USA
Hot dog, no bun, apple, 1 cherry tomato, catsup, milk.

I have been in many lunchrooms, setting up for school shows, and not only are many of the meals skimpy, but even then much of it ends up in trash barrels because it is unappetizing.

Best Sub Sandwich - Ever! Nardelli's Grinder Shoppe

Photo: What item do you crave from Nardelli's?

Photo credit: Kyle D. on Foursquare
Yesterday I was in Hartford, CT. Travelling on I-84, I saw billboards for Nardelli's. "Voted The Best Grinder In Connecticut" and "Seen OnThe Travel Channel." Exit 25, easy off, easy on.

Photo: If you are one of the four lucky winners to win a grinder a week for 2015, what grinder would you have weekly? Would you try different grinders for the 52 weeks or would you just go with your favorite?
http://www.nardellis.com/giveaway.html

I had their "World Famous" Italian Grinder. It was amazing. A crusty loaf of bread stuffed with meat, cheese and veggies. I could only eat half, it is so big. I recommend Nardelli's to everyone. Great meats, great bread. Not the cheap meats Subway uses, but high quality Italian deli products.
This is not your Subway meat case. Nardelli's is a third generation Italian deli with real Italian meats we just do not find in Ohio, (can you say, "Pruzitini?").

I think the fellow who took and assembled my order was Wayne Brady.

What I Think About Jack In The Box Restaurants

I first had Jack In The Box about 8 years ago in Illinois. The restaurant was severely understaffed and it took over 30 minutes to get my order after I had paid for it.

The only reason I was willing to wait so long is that I had empathy for the manager. She was obviously short-handed, but was still friendly as she hustled and did her best to take care of customers.

The food was great. Both my wife and I loved it.

Since then we have eaten at Jack In The Box Restaurants many times. There was a store in Overland, Missouri we would eat at every summer on our trip there. Sadly, we discovered it was closed this past summer.

One thing about Jack In The Box Restaurants that was a continual source of jesting between us is that service is always slow. We have never been to Jack In The Box yet where it didn't take 15 minutes or more to get fed. But, the food is worth the wait. (I wouldn't eat at McDonalds if they would trow the food into an open car window when I drove past.)

Yesterday, Jack In The Box let me down. I drove to the drive thru window at their store in Indianapolis, Indiana. I ordered breakfast and was told they were out of eggs. OUT OF EGGS during the breakfast rush. I left, disappointed and went on to Hardees, who happen to have the best biscuits, bar none.

I managed restaurants for 6 years. In those unusual times I saw I was running low on an inventory item, I would either borrow from another restaurant in our chain or even buy the item at retail at a local grocery. But NEVER did I run out of a menu item in the middle of a rush.

The Jack manager should have seen they were low on eggs and sent someone to get a few dozen at the market. The retail and wholesale price of eggs does not vary much. Instead, the management lost revenue. I am sure I was not the only unhappy customer. Who knows how many future sales they lost, all over the price of an egg.

I will return to Jack In The Box. There are none in our area, so it is a treat when I am near one. The food, when you get it, is worth the wait.  But be forewarned, my experience has been that service is always slow.

Avoid BuzzQuote - Unless you want to be annoyed

So I fill in the blanks, looking for a couple quotes from BuzzQuote. Do I get any quotes? NO!
But I got the first sales call 30 seconds after I submitted the form. Followed by more phone calls.
I work, I have responsibilities, and my work phone is being bombarded by salespeople.

This is NOT good business. I wasn't given any warning that a swarm of sales people would descend upon me like locusts. Should I have expected it? maybe - but Buzzquotes' videos are so entertaining. They seem so nice when soliciting my request.

Never again!
